Shannon McFerran's first novel is Synchro Boy (Arsenal 2018), about teenager Bart, who is drawn to synchronized swimming, which puts his masculinity into question. A competitive swimmer, Bart follows his intuition and checks out this new sport. He becomes taken with one of the girls, Erika, and they form a mixed duet, trying out for the Olympics. His Olympic dreams are threatened when Erika suddenly quits the duet, Bart finds Erika's frenemy alluring, and he also notices a cute boy in the diving club. There are many ways to be a boy it seems.

Shannon McFerran earned an MFA in creative Writing at UBC, and published stories in Canadian literary magazines and a YA anthology.
