Obit


Anatol Murad, Viennese economist and author, died in Ladysmith at age 97. The Marxist academic attended Columbia University and was nearly deported at the onset of WWII, when Austria was annexed by Germany. In the '40s, Murad translated Open Letter to Herr von Molo, a famous letter written by Thomas Mann to the German Writers' Organization. Among Murad's books was Franz Joseph I of Austria and his Empire.
