Christine Quintana's play, Clean/Espejos (2022) explores different perspectives of female solidarity, secrets and survival across two languages when two women from very different classes collide at a Mexican hotel. When Adriana, a hotel floor manager meets a Canadian wedding guest, the two connect over the trauma in their lives -- Adriana with a family loss and the Canadian with a long-held, damaging secret. Both women are forced to face their past and all that they’ve tried to keep hidden.
Quintana's Selfie (Playwrights Canada $17.95) is about how sexual assault against minors can happen in any community. "The question I want to pose," she says, "is how can we talk about consent in a way that prevents this from happening in the first place?" Selfie had a German language premiere in Berlin in January, 2022.
Quintana also co-created with Molly MacKinnon, the play Never The Last.
She is the winner of a Siminovitch Prize Protege winner for playwriting and a founding member of the Canadian Latinx Theatre Artist Coalition. She holds a BFA in Acting from UBC.
Born in Los Angeles to a Mexican American father and a Dutch British Canadian mother, Quintana grew up in East Vancouver, "...seeing every show I could at The Cultch and the Vancouver Playhouse," she said on her website.
