Melanie J. Watts was born in 1959 in Rumford, Essex, England. She emigrated to BC with her family in 1967. She and her husband raised sheep in the Peace River region for twelve years. Watts is now a freelance writer and master gardener living near Prince George. Her first book, Growing Food in a Short Season (Douglas & McIntyre, 2014), will help northern organic gardeners make the most of a brief, intense summer. Watts includes lists of plants that grow well in climate zones 2 and 3, and seasonal recipes.
