A Victoria photographer, Cameron Young teaches journalism at the University of Victoria and is an environmental writier specializing in ancient temperate rainforest. His book The Forests of British Columbia (Whitecap, 1985) received the Duthie Booksellers' Choice Award in 1986. His other major coffee table book is Clayoquot: On The Wild Side, with photographer Adrian Dorst. As a photographer he has collaborated with Ken Budd on Calgary, Cowboys & Kananaskis Country. Young has received numerous magazine awards for his articles on environmental issues, journalism and natural resources. His publication Forestalk received the 1982 IABC Canada Silver Leaf award for best corporate magazine in Canada and an IABC Gold Quill for best corporate magazine worldwide in 1981. He was born in Quebec City in 1944 and came to B.C. in 1973. Young also assisted Ian and Karen McAllister in the writing of The Great Bear Rainforest: Canada's Forgotten Coast (Harbour, 1997), winner of the Bill Duthie Booksellers Choice Award.
